Hypothesis.jpgDOT maintains strict guidelines regarding specimen processing. CMI tracks and monitors all testing to ensure the testing process meets the DOT requirements.

Our contracted lab is SAMSHA certified.

Below is a listing of the substances that are tested under DOT requirements and our standard Non-DOT testing:

Initial Test: All specimens will be initially screened for the use of prohibited substances using an immunoassay test, which will eliminate negative urine specimens from further, or confirmatory, testing. Any specimen which resulted in a positive after the initial screening will be subject to confirmation screening using a more stringent and precise testing methodology. The cut-off levels listed below will be used in the initial screening of specimens:

Marijuana metabolites........................................................................... 50 ng/ml

Cocaine metabolites........................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Opiate metabolites............................................................................ 2000 ng/ml

Phencyclidine (PCP)............................................................................. 25 ng/ml

Amphetamine Metabolites................................................................. 1000 ng/ml

Confirmatory Test: All specimens which are identified as positive on the initial test will be confirmed by a second screening independent from the initial screening which uses gas chromatography/mass spectrometry to confirm the initial positive test result. The cut-off levels listed below will be used to determine “confirmed positive” test results:

Marijuana metabolites*.......................................................................... 15 ng/ml

Cocaine metabolites**......................................................................... 150 ng/ml

Opiate:

Morphine.............................................................................. 2000 ng/ml

Codeine............................................................................... 2000 ng/ml

6-Acetylmorphine***.................................................................. 10 ng/ml

Phencyclidine (PCP)............................................................................. 25 ng/ml

Amphetamines:

Amphetamine......................................................................... 500 ng/ml

Methamphetamine****............................................................. 500 ng/ml

*               Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabionol-d-carboxylic acid

**             Benzoylecgonine

***            \4\ Test for 6-AM when morphine concentration exceeds 2000 ng/ml

****           Specimen must also contain amphetamine at a concentration greater than or equal to 200 ng/ml

Amphetamines................................................................................. 1000 ng/ml

Barbiturates....................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Benzodiazephones............................................................................. 300 ng/ml

Cannabinoid metabolites....................................................................... 50 ng/ml

Cocaine metabolites........................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Opiates.............................................................................................. 300 ng/ml

Phencyclidine (PCP)............................................................................. 25 ng/ml

Methadone......................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Methaqualone..................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Propoxyphene.................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Confirmatory Test: All specimens which are identified as positive on the initial test will be confirmed by a second screening independent from the initial screening which uses gas chromatography/mass spectrometry to confirm the initial positive test result. The cut-off levels listed below will be used to determiner “confirmed positive” test result:

Amphetamines................................................................................... 500 ng/ml

Barbiturates....................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Benzodiazephones............................................................................. 300 ng/ml

Cannabinoid metabolites....................................................................... 15 ng/ml

Opiates.............................................................................................. 300 ng/ml

Phencyclidine (PCP)............................................................................. 25 ng/ml

Methadone......................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Methaqualone..................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Propoxyphene.................................................................................... 300 ng/ml

Initial Test: All specimens will be initially screened for the use of prohibited substances using radioimmunoassay. RIAH® measures the drug molecules permanently entrapped in hair which were incorporated following ingestion. Any specimen which resulted in a positive test after the initial screening will be subject to confirmation screening using a more stringent and precise testing methodology. The cut-off levels listed below will be used in the initial screening of specimens:

Amphetamine.................................................................................... 5 ng/10 ml

Cocaine metabolites.......................................................................... 5 ng/10 ml

Cannabinoid metabolites........................................................................... 2 ng/g

Opiate.............................................................................................. 2 ng/10 ml

Phencyclidine (PCP).......................................................................... 3 ng/10 ml

Amphetamine.................................................................................... 5 ng/10 ml

Cocaine metabolites.......................................................................... 5 ng/10 ml

Cannabinoid metabolites.................................................................... 1 pg/10 ml

Opiate.............................................................................................. 2 ng/10 ml

Phencyclidine (PCP).......................................................................... 3 ng/10 ml
